August 20, 2024 – First Day to Circulate Nominating

Petitions for April 1, 2025, Consolidated Election

Starting August 20, 2024, petitions for candidates seeking election to the Sugar Grove Village Board in the April 1, 2025, Consolidated Election may be circulated. One (1) President position and three (3) Trustee positions will be on the ballot. All are four (4) year terms, serving the community at large.

Sugar Grove elections are partisan, meaning that a candidate can choose to run as a party-affiliated candidate or an independent candidate. Historically, Sugar Grove candidates have chosen to run as independents. All Sugar Grove Trustees are elected At-Large. At-large elected officials represent the entire community, with no elected official representing a specific area or ward.

To qualify as a candidate, applicants must be a qualified elector (registered to vote) of the Village of Sugar Grove and have resided within the corporate limits of the Village for at least one year preceding the Consolidated Election. Illinois law imposes other qualifications to be eligible to submit a petition for candidacy and to serve as an elected official of the Village of Sugar Grove. Candidates should review Illinois law and other related codes to determine whether they meet the required qualifications. Compliance with the applicable law in having the petitions for candidacy signed and submitting them along with other required documents is the sole responsibility of the candidate.

The Guide, published by the State Board of Elections, gives an in-depth discussion of requirements for filing nominating papers.
